Sydney–Victoria is a federal electoral district located on Cape Breton Island. The Riding consists of a large portion of the urban area of the Cape Breton Regional municipality including the former City of Sydney and the towns of Sydney Mines, North Sydney and New Waterford. The riding also includes all of Victoria County and Pleasant bay in Inverness County. The riding contains several Mi’kmaq first nation communities including Eskasoni, Membertou and Wagmacook
Approximately 80,000 people live in the riding; the economy is dominated by service industries, tourism, fishing and forestry. The former towns were home to steel making and coal mining. Currently old mine sites and the former legacy of steel making sites are being remediated.
